چکیده

The description logic PALC allows to express degrees of belief in concept and role assertions for individuals. We are concerned with the mathematical development of a theory for probabilistic ABoxes in PALC. The axioms of probability give us a set of linear constraints on the models of an ABox. Moreover, an independence assumption regarding the assertions for different individuals yields additional, nonlinear constraints.

PALC: Extending ALC ABoxes with Probabilities

Most probabilistic extensions of description logics focus on the terminological apparatus. While some allow for expressing probabilistic knowledge about concept assertions, systems which can express probabilistic knowledge about role assertions have received very little attention as yet. We present a system PALC which allows us to express degrees of belief in concept and role assertions for ind...

Forgetting and Uniform Interpolation for ALC-Ontologies with ABoxes

We present a method to compute uniform interpolants of ALC-ontologies with ABoxes. Uniform interpolants are restricted views of ontologies that only use a specified set of symbols, but share all entailments in that signature with the original ontology. This way, it allows to select or remove information from an ontology based on a signature, which has applications in privacy, ontology analysis ...

Uniform Interpolation and Forgetting for ALC Ontologies with ABoxes

Uniform interpolation and the dual task of forgetting restrict the ontology to a specified subset of concept and role names. This makes them useful tools for ontology analysis, ontology evolution and information hiding. Most previous research focused on uniform interpolation of TBoxes. However, especially for applications in privacy and information hiding, it is essential that uniform interpola...

On Extending Description Logics for Reasoning About Typicality: a First Step

We extend the Description Logic ALC with a “typicality” operator T that allows us to reason about the prototypical properties and inheritance with exceptions. The resulting logic is called ALC + T. The typicality operator is intended to select the “most normal” or “most typical” instances of a concept. In our framework, knowledge bases may then contain, in addition to ordinary ABoxes and TBoxes...
